The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is ready to help animals brought by their owners during the evacuation period to emergency shelters, and ready to begin search and rescue operations following the storm. Since Hurricane Katrina, IFAW has been involved in helping the state of Louisiana in preparing for the next disaster. They have been helping at the individual parish and county level and were asked by the State Vet to send a team to help the State Animal Rescue Team (SART) in setting up temporary shelters in New Orleans, pre-storm. Should there be a need for animal search and rescue operations post landfall, some IFAW team members will leave the shelters and head to the disaster scene to help with animal search and rescue.
