Mining malachite began as early as 4000 BCE in ancient Egypt, where it was used to color tomb paintings and in jewelry. Malachite was also regularly used to color European paintings, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries. The stone is said to bring harmony, knowledge, and patience. Mothers once attached malachite to infants' cradles, to protect them from danger and illness.
Pendant measures 1" L (2.54 cm) and comes on an 18" (45.7 cm) sterling silver rope chain. Designed in Seattle, Washington, and made in Taxco, Mexico.
